The Stonethrowers Rally will be the sixth round of the eight round 2000 Ford Ireland KA Rally Championship. The competition to date has been extremely close with only a handful of seconds separating each of the crews on the previous five rounds. The competition is so close that there has been three different winners on the opening five rounds of the Championship and even at this stage no less that five drivers can still claim the overall Championship title when dropped scores are taken into account.

The Championship favourite is James Travers in the Barry Pender Motors Ford KA from Kilkenny, James has been one of the dominant forces in the 2000 Ford Ireland KA Rally Championship, taking three wins and two second places, however he still cannot afford to drop any scores and a non finish would damage his Championship hopes. Second placed John Carroll in the Dooley Motors Ford KA is in a strong second place and having scored his first victory this season is in a determined mood and is not prepared to settle for second place. Third placed John O’Dowd in the Extreme Sounds Ford KA had a brilliant start to the season scoring a first and second place finish on the opening two rounds however John has suffered some very bad luck scoring two non finishes but is still the man to watch.

The Stonethrowers Rally based in Clonmel consists of over 85 miles of fast flowing Tipperary Tarmac Stages, which will prove to be the ultimate test of both man and machine.

All the drivers have competed under identical conditions, with identically prepared and powered Ford KA’s. The closeness of the competition is a testament to all of the drivers ability and the fairness of the competition will mean that the best driver will win the championship” said Declan Foley, KA Brand Manager, Ford Ireland
