Robert Moffett made a return to Hut Cross after contesting the Dunlop Supercar series at Mondello Park all year, He was second overall a by just 0.7 seconds driving his awesome Ford Escort 6R4. Third placed 2003 V-MAC Silo’s Champion Ronnie Coulter held a slender 1 point lead over Patrick Higgins in the title race for this year but a lack lustre performance from Higgins allowed Coulter to extend his Championship lead to 9 points over the Longford driver. Wedlock’s victory now means that he is Ronnie’s closest challenger on 51 points.

Ashley McAdoo made a comeback in more ways than one with a newly re-shelled car following his Cavan Stages accident and a trip to Cork to contest the Startrek Navigation trial on Saturday night. Fatigue showed however as he could only manage 5th in class but retains his Championship class lead. Gerard Greene in his yellow Foamula 1 Vauxhall Nova was the class winner on the day, the 10 points bringing him level with Tommy Donlon who was 2nd in class with Hut Cross newcomer Thomas Carolan 3rd in class in his Ford Escort.

Last years Class 2 Champion Adrian Farrelly, and winner of round 1 in January, had engine problems in his Fragrant Flowers Opel Corsa prior to the event and did not start. The Enda Conaty Tractor Hire sponsored Ford Escort Mk2 of Joseph Smith won the class on Sunday to take him 6 points clear of Adrian in the Championship Class. Stephen Clarke was second in his Peugeot 205 after converting to a wide track set up. Patrick Higgins lost time with a spin and could only manage third in class in his Vauxhall Nova.

The Twin Cam Corolla of Columba Heena was the Cass 3 victor on Sunday also finishing 4th overall. 2004 Billy Coleman Award hopeful Eamonn McElvaney was second in class in his Moen Transport Peugeot 106 despite stalling on one of his timed runs. Although Third Overall in last year’s series denied him the class 3 win, Ollie McCormick has amassed a seemingly unassailable lead in this years Championship, and he extended his lead further with a third in class finish on Sunday.

The battle for supremacy in class 4 remained very much a family affair on Sunday with Conor Watters taking the class win from John in their Mk2 Escort, they hold the same position in the Championship class with Connor on 47 points enjoying a 3-point lead over John. The Ford Escort G5 of Darrell Harron was third in class on Sunday and occupies third in class 4 on 32 points having not started round 4 in July.

In class 5 the win went to Robert Moffett with series leader and reigning Champion Ronnie Coulter second and July event winner Dessie Tierney third. Ronnie and Dessie now tie on 38 points in the Championship class with Mervyn Wedlock 3rd in class on 34 points. Paying very close attention in fourth place is Garreth McCullagh from Corcaghan on 31 points, and if Ronnie wins the series outright he will come out of the class and the other drivers will automatically move up a place.

The V-MAC Silo’s series is being run over 6 rounds this year as the awards dinner is taking place during the 40th anniversary celebrations of the founding of Co. Cavan Motor Club on the first weekend in December. The Overall and Class Champions will be those drivers who have the best aggregate points total over their best 5 rounds and the traditional final Christmas round will run as an independent event this year. The 2004 V-MAC Silos Autocross Championship comes to a close with Round 6 on November 28th.
