Motorsport Ireland are pleased to announce that the Junior Championship winner in 2008 will receive a sponsored drive in a Class 4 (Group N over 2000 cc) car at a National event during 2009.

Further awards for drivers finishing 2nd and 3rd overall will be announced presently.

New format for Billy Coleman Award.
Motorsport Ireland are delighted to announce the creation of a National Junior Rally Championship. The new series will consist of four tarmac and four forest gravel events in 2008 with each driver's best score in three of each type to count. Drivers score points based on their performance in their respective classes and the driver with the most points is declared the Motorsport Ireland Junior National Rally Champion.

All class winners (8) will then qualify for the interview stage for the Billy Coleman Award along with two further wildcards.

The entire fund of 50,000 will be awarded to the winner in the form of a supported drive in a Rally series outside Ireland. Details of this are yet to be confirmed but will be announced shortly.

John Naylor, President of Motorsport Ireland, said "we are constantly seeking ways to improve the lot of our young drivers and this new championship, along with the direct link to the Billy Coleman Award, should add substantially to the profile of those taking part and the Billy Coleman Award itself".
