It’s a First for Mackarel and Hayes

Derek Mackarel and Muireann Hayes have won the Motorsport Ireland National Navigation Trials Championship for 2017-18. The win comes only in their second full year competing together having finish second in last year’s championship losing by only one point.

Derek, a member of the Monaghan Motor Club and winner of the National Gravel Autocross Championship in 2014 is a 2rd year student of Sligo IT.

Muireann from Cork is the first lady to win the championship and only the second Navigator from Cork to do so, James O’Brien 1989/90. Muireann is a 4th year student in CIT and has been navigating since she turned 16.
