The 1998 champion, Gordon Percy has given notice that he will be the man to beat again this year. However,it was not plain sailing for the Nenagh driver,as his Kawasaki Special broke its suspension on the first of the three timed runs of the day.Richard Percy,Gordons brother piloted his Ford Special to a ten second lead on the first timed run ahead of the Chevvy Special of Ger Brennan from Killarney.Alan Byrne from Dublin retired his new Suzuki special with transmission failure before he recorded a time. On the second run,Richard also experienced suspension problems which led to his retirement.Gordon, meantime had the Kawasaki repaired and he raced around the track to set fastest time of the day on his second run.Despite the drying track, nobody went quicker on the third run.Percy won with five seconds to spare over Ger Brennan, with Ger Lucey another second in arrears.

The class winners were Paddy O Connor,Austin Shinnors,Joe Shinnors,Michael Linehan,Richard Percy and Ger Brennan. The fastest saloon was driven by Joe Shinnors. The best lady driver was Breda Pigott and Michael Pigott the best novice.
