John in the Barry Pender Motors Ford KA once again proved his ability taking his third consecutive 2001 Ford Ireland KA Challenge victory after a great battle all day, with second placed Trevor Harding. John set fastest stage time on stage one to lead by two seconds from Harding. Trevor in a very determined mood drove well to equal Carrolls time on stages two and three. With only two seconds separated the two great rivals, the stage was set for a grand finale entering the fourth and final stage of the day,. Harding stopped the clocks at three minutes fifty eight seconds and Carroll responded to set an amazing time of three minutes fifty five seconds over the three mile tight and twisty stage, not only to win the KA Class but also to finish in an amazing twenty fourth position overall out of one hundred and twenty starters in the main field. Barry Barrable recovered after hitting a bale to secure third place.

"I seem to be making a bit of a habit of this, but it was really close all day. I drove well and did not make any mistakes when some my fellow competitors hit some of the bales at the chicanes. I enjoyed the event but I am really looking forward to the round of the Challenge when we will get back on the tarmac roads where the Ford KA really excels" said John.

"The RT Greenmount Rallysprint was a really challenging event for both the cars and drivers, with the mixed surface track and tight chicanes, however all drivers competing in identical Ford KA’s means the best driver on the day won." Said Declan Foley, KA Brand Manager.

Round 4 of the challenge sees the army of Ford KA's travel to Wexford Stages based in Rosslare, Co. Wexford on the 15th & 16th of September where we can again expect more close action from some of Ireland's up and coming racing talents.
