Currently John Carroll (Kilkenny)leads the KA Challenge from Trevor Harding (Cashel) by thirty one points. However there is still everything to play for, with thirty points on offer to the winner of each round. Carroll has set the pace so far this year taking three victories from the first four rounds. However Harding is constantly improving, challenging Carroll on the last two rounds, narrowly missing out on his first victory to secure two second place finishes and move from a lowly sixth position to second in the overall standings.

Third in the overall standings is the experienced Barry Barrable now in his third season in the Ford KA, will be anxious to reduce his deficit to the KA Challenge leader John Carroll. Barrable's title hopes have been hampered by poor results on the opening two rounds, however he seems to have found his old form after scoring a third place finish on the last round of the Challenge.

Mr. Consistency, fourth placed Declan Magee (Enniskillen) is one of the new comers to the 2001 Ford Ireland KA Challenge and is knocking on the door of his first victory having produced some excellent stage times. Fifth placed Gerry Keyes (Limerick) another new comer has provided one of the strongest challenges to leader Carroll scoring second place finishes on the opening and third round of the Challenge, however a non-finish on the last round has dropped him from third to fifth position overall.

Results after Round 4

1 John Carroll 113
2 Trevor Harding 82
3 Barry Barrable 79
4 Declan Magee 78
5 Gerry Keyes 72
6 Denise Ryan 68
7 Martin Laverty 57
8 Liam Denning 51
Each competitor is allowed to drop their two worst scores and there will be more fireworks once dropped scores are taken into account later in the season.
