ALDERSHOT RALLY FOR HEROES POSTPONED

Posted: April 9, 2015 6:44 PM

Southern Car Club and Farnborough District Motor Club have come to the difficult decision that the Aldershot Rally for Heroes - due to run on 10/11 April - will not now take place, as entries received so far do not make the event financially viable. This is a bitter disappointment to everyone concerned, after the hard work the organising teams have put in to get the event off the ground in such a short space of time.

The organisers apologise to the competitors, landowners, volunteers, the military and the Help for Heroes charity, for not being able to go ahead with the event. They thank those competitors, who had pledged support to the event, but understand that, for some, the timeframe and financial obligation have meant they were not able to show their support

The option to postpone the event to later in the year has been investigated, but as the rally calendar is looking full, and with no clear and obvious slot to move the event to, this is not an option.

Southern Car Club and Farnborough District Motor Club will now work closely with our friends in the military to bring the event back in 2016. This will allow more notice of the event date, which should help people plan for the event and - more importantly - plan to assist our charity, Help for Heroes.

Speaking on behalf of Southern Car Club, Chairman Anthony Concannon said:
"Members of both clubs worked hard to bring this event to the Aldershot area. We had a great partnership with all the statutory bodies involved and we will continue to work with the military and Help for Heroes to run a stronger and better event in 2016."

For the Farnborough District Motor Club Chairman Simon Taylor, the disappointment is equal and he said:
"We were all ready to go for this great new rally, but - despite all the time and resource invested - it has not paid off, but the event can still be a great one in the future. We have proved that the event is a workable concept and we will run it in the future. The enthusiasm and support shown so far, has convinced us that we can do that.

Military spokesman and liaison Lt Col James Sunderland was equally subdued and said:
"I wish to thank everyone involved for their superb contribution, time and energy in (almost) turning the dream to reality and I sincerely apologise for the fact that we didn't quite make it. The chosen format was cost-effective, viable and very exciting and that bodes well for all of us in the future."

More news on the future of Aldershot Rally for Heroes will be made available once the clubs have discussed options with all their stakeholders.

FREE ENTRY TO WALES RALLY GB FOR ONE LUCKY ALDERSHOT RALLY FOR HEROES CREW

Posted: March 17, 2015 9:39 AM

ALDERSHOT RALLY for HEROES are delighted to announce that one lucky competitor will win a free entry to contest the final round of the 2015 FIA World Rally Championship, Wales Rally GB.

Introduced in 2013 to revitalise the concluding round of the WRC, the highly successful “Road to Wales” initiative enabled winning competitors from a wide range of championships to secure a free entry to the event; but with no British Rally Championship this year the offer has been extended to organising clubs of previous constituent rounds.

As a result, Southern Car Club and Farnborough District Motor Car Club are proud to announce that ALDERSHOT RALLY for HEROES is a qualifying event for the prize, which will offer the opportunity to compete alongside the world’s best drivers on the November showdown.

However, rather than simply awarding this superb prize, worth up to £1500, to the outright rally winner, the organisers have chosen to give all competitors in all classes a chance of winning.

First, 2nd and 3rd overall, First overall in the historic section and all the Class winners will be entered into a draw on publication of the final results. One lucky crew will be picked from a hat and will be awarded this prestigious prize. The winner will then have the opportunity to select whether to contest the full International event, or the National section of Wales Rally GB.

“The Road to Wales has proved to be a huge success and we had no hesitation in continuing the initiative in 2015,” said Ben Taylor, Managing Director of Wales Rally GB. “Wales Rally GB needs to be not only the climax of the WRC but also a fantastic end-of-season festival to celebrate the very best of British rallying and the Road to Wales makes sure that some of this country’s best will be on the stages in November.”

“This is a fantastic prize and we would like to thank IMS for their generosity” said Michael Weeks. “ You never know” said his fellow Joint Clerk of the Course, Steve Castle “we could have an ALDERSHOT RALLY for HEROES competitor on the podium in Wales. It allows EVERYONE the chance to dream!”

Entries are still open for ALDERSHOT RALLY for HEROES, which is scheduled to run on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th April 2015 and aims to raise awareness and funds for the charity, Help for Heroes.

No late Entry Fee for Aldershot Rally for Heroes

Posted: March 13, 2015 11:14 AM

The latest news from the Aldershot Rally for Heroes team is that it has been decided there will be no late entry fees for this year’s event, which takes place on 10/11 April 2015

Teething troubles with the on-line entry system have prevented some drivers from actually placing an entry so in effort to be fair to all possible entrants the late entry fee is now scrapped. The organisers, Farnborough District Motor Club and Southern Car club have therefore extended the entry date to 27th March 2015

Chairman of the Organising Committee Simon Taylor said
“This waiver is great news for those rally crews wishing to and about to enter. We are now seeing drivers from as far away as North Yorkshire entering. This will be an event to remember for all, drivers, crews, spectators and of course the charity being supported, Help for Heroes.”

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE AT ALDERSHOT RALLY FOR HEROES

Posted: March 3, 2015 7:21 PM

As the south of England's only multi-venue asphalt rally, Aldershot Rally for Heroes gets ever closer, the team from Southern Car Club and Farnborough District Motor Club are hard at work to ensure that only the best is available come Friday 10 April.

Over the last few months, armies of volunteers have been busy with the planning and safety requirements needed to ensure the enjoyment of everyone who takes part in this year's event.

What's new in 2015? A novel way of raising charity donations to support Help for Heroes in the entry fee; a visit back to the fabled Longcross venue after many years; a brand-new stage in Aldershot. There is a lot to excite competitors when they descend on the south of England for the Aldershot Rally for Heroes on 10/11 April 2015.

The event will provide participants with stages on Friday night and all day Saturday rallying over asphalt roads; these range from wide, sweeping 'semi-public' roads, through tight and technically-challenging military compounds, to narrow, winding lanes through woodland.

There is also the Mini Aldershot Rally for Heroes; this will cover just the Saturday stages, for those who have difficulty-taking Friday off.

Another benefit is the Super Rally, for those who - having competed on Friday evening - have the unthinkable happen and retire. Subject to re-scrutiny, they can slot back into Super Rally on the Saturday.

For Simon Taylor, Chairman of the Organising committee, it is a case of thanking those who help and contribute to the running of the event; he said:
"Without doubt, if it was not for the owners of Longcross, and all the other owners of the areas where we have stages, it would be very difficult to run the event. They have been so willing, and supportive of the event, and made what we are trying to achieve that much easier. We have new stages, a new Rally HQ, and a new Service Area - there is an awful lot that everyone can look forward to."

The Challenge is back for Rally Crews this year

Southern Car Club and Farnborough District Motor Club are delighted to announce more details of the upcoming Aldershot Rally for Heroes.

The clubs have worked hard over the last few months to create an event, with much essential help from Aldershot Garrison, which will no doubt be an enjoyable but stiff, test for competitors.

The return of Longcross (is a major coup for Help for Heroes, as the venue will provide a superb start to the event in twilight. The organisers are eternally grateful for the support from owners, Crest Nicholson, while Longcross Studios have been equally supportive

Add in stages at Pegasus/Rushmoor, Minley and Bramley, not to mention a brand new stage at Pirbright/Deepcut and at Buller in the centre of Aldershot, and we have a rally, which will set crews a competitive and demanding route.

Lt Col James Sunderland, the Military Lead, is clearly delighted with the rapid progress being made on a weekly basis and stated “With nothing but enthusiasm from everyone involved, wider support has grown rapidly and it seems to have caught the imagination of locals, dignitaries, politicians, organising clubs and motor sport die-hards across the UK.

Indeed, new access to MOD owned roads in Hampshire and Surrey, the availability of Aldershot Military Town and the overwhelming wish of the motor sport community in the South East to do something more for charity have come together nicely. Everyone is working hard to ensure that this new event will be smooth, competitive and enjoyable.”

There is not one rally, but two; Aldershot Rally for Heroes will run on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th April 2015, with the Mini Aldershot Rally for Heroes on Saturday 11th April 2015. The event will be a round of the Jelf Motorsport.com Stage Rally Championship (AEMC & ASEMC) and also the AFRT Championship.

The Standard Entry Fee for the Aldershot Rally for Heroes is £469 inclusive of Help for Heroes donation (refundable at £20 per £100 (excluding gift aid donation) raised up to a maximum of £100), MSA Insurance & Permit fees (including Insurance Premium Tax) one Road Book & Service Pack per Competitor for entries received by 13th March 2015; Entries received up to 27th March 2015 will be at a rate of £519.

The Standard Entry Fee for the Mini Aldershot Rally for Heroes is £395 inclusive of Help for Heroes donation (refundable at £20 per £100 (excluding gift aid donation) raised up to a maximum of £100), MSA Insurance & Permit fees (including Insurance Premium Tax) one Road Book & Service Pack per Competitor for entries received by 13th March 2015; Entries received up to 27th March 2015 will be at a rate of £445.

The maximum entry is 90 cars combined between both events, this will be allocated strictly on a first come, first served basis.

For Event Director, Rick Smith the fact that the event is now announced to the wider world is good news, he commented
“I am so proud of the work that members of the SCC and FDMC organising team have done, supported by the Association of Central Southern Motor Clubs. New Stages, night stages and a town centre stage are all on tarmac. Add in the joy of raising money for our injured troops and you have a fantastic event. Get your entries in now”

Rally for Heroes is back

Having raised over £15,000 for the charity Help for Heroes with the running of London Rally for Heroes in 2013, it was only a matter of time before the rally would return

This April will see Aldershot Rally for Heroes continue the good work. Initially organised by Southern Car Club this time it will be that club and their new partners Farnborough and District Motor Club and with cooperation from the Association of Central Southern Motor Clubs.

The event is scheduled for April 10th/11th and will feature over fifty stage miles, with the promise of a brand new special stage set in the heart of Aldershot, as well as a new Service Area in the town.

The Military are keen to recreate the enthusiasm shown two years ago, and are fully supporting the move to the spiritual home of the British Army. There is unwavering and enthusiastic support for the event from Aldershot Garrison, Rushmoor Council as well as Military establishments and contractors.

Event director Rick Smith said
“we were very pleased with the inaugural Rally for Heroes, based at Brooklands, now to be invited again by our friends in the army to organise the second such rally at the home of the British Army is special indeed. We want to call on competitors, marshals and fans in the UK and Europe to come and enjoy the event, and raise more than we did last time for Help for Heroes”

More information will be announced in due course, but already support for the event is growing.

The event has a new website as well as the usual range of social media where all supporters and competitors are encouraged to use and join.

More details will be released in due course, but for now ensure you keep the weekend of April 10th/11th and come to Aldershot and join in the fun.
