Centenary Stages Cancelled

"Sheffield & Hallamshire Motor Club are disappointed to announce that the 2016 running of the Centenary Stages, due to take place on August 21st at Twyford Wood, has been cancelled. With less than a week to go until entries close we find ourselves a considerable way short of the minimum requirement of 40, stated in the supplementary regulations. To cancel the event at this point means that we can minimise our costs, and whilst we appreciate there is still time until entries close, we feel that the number of entries required even to run the event at a manageable loss, is insurmountable.

Club President, Matthew Screaton said, “Obviously we are very disappointed. We have put in a huge amount of work in order to put on what we hoped would be an excellent rally, but the response from competitors has been slow. With just 17 entries, only eight of which have paid, with less than two weeks until the rally, we are left with no other decision than to cancel. We are grateful to the support of all our officials, and the marshals who had volunteered to commit their time to the event.”

Sheffield & Hallamshire Motor Club will look to organise further single venue stage rally events in the future, and are already working on securing venues for 2017 and beyond."
