The Irish Motor Sport Benevolent Fund and GOAL, the sportsman's charity, will once again benefit from our Irish Dunlop backed Golf Classic, which will be held at the beautiful Glen of the Downs Golf Club, Delgany, Co. Wicklow, on Thursday 28th May 2009, starting at 1.30pm.

This will be the seventh occasion for the Classic to be staged. Already over EUR110,000 has been donated to both charities through this fun-day golf outing. "The Glen of the Downs club is the ideal location for the event, with owners and motorsport competitors, Michael and Stephen Doyle, acting as hosts for a 'shot-gun start' at 1.30pm and then a sit-down dinner at 8.00pm," says Committee-man Michael Lyster of RTE Sport, who will also act as MC on the day.

The entry fee for each team of four - male and/or female - is only EUR600. This includes green-fees, dinner, four goody bags, good chat, banter and craic. For some the golf is serious, but the conviviality, the friendships and the charities are also very important.

The scoring system will be "Stableford" and there are prizes for the top three teams overall and for the best Motorsport Club affiliated to Motorsport Ireland, the MSA or Motorcycling Ireland. Last year, the Birr and District Motor Club became champions, just pipping the previous year's winners, Co. Cavan Motor Club, by a single point. Birr will be back again! So will Cavan!

With the 'shot-gun start' it is possible to cope with 35 teams, so we are hoping that as many motorsport clubs as possible will enter and support our two important charities. We are also looking for sponsors for tees and greens at EUR200 each. So, please, please, come along and/or get involved.
Please pass the word to your club members and give every consideration to entering a team, or two, from your club - not tomorrow, but today.
