The organisers of this year’s Loughgall Festival of Motorsport are delighted to announce one of the top names in the world of rallying will be competing, as well as the very welcome addition of Slowly Sideways Ireland

Leading the entry list for this year’s Loughgall Festival of Motorsport, which takes place on Saturday 21st May, is the legendry Jimmy McRae, who remains the most successful British Rally Championship Driver of all time. Despite being a late entrant to the sport at the age of 31 Jimmy has for the last 38 years been a familiar face in British, European and World rallying. His unchallenged achievements include five outright wins of the British Rally Championship along with seven victories in the Circuit of Ireland. These triumphs involved a range of cars over the years with Jimmy behind the wheels of an Opel Ascona, an Opel Manta 400, a Ford Sierra Cosworth and a Vauxhall Chevette.

Now in his sixties and still going strong, Jimmy is a shining example that no matter how old good drivers get they never loose their edge!

Clerk of the Course, William Fullerton said,
“We are thrilled to confirm Jimmy McRae will be competing at Loughgall’s Historic Rally Challenge and we wish to thank Tom Geraghty of Waterford for kindly proving the Ford Escort Mark II, which Jimmy will pilot on the day. His attendance will undoubtedly provide a major boost to the event and consequently to our nominated charity, Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.”

Also joining the Festival will be the outstanding Slowly Sideways Ireland. This allows a driving challenge without actually competing as members can carry out a driving demonstration in a classic rally model.

Festival Co-coordinator Ivor Ferguson commented,
“It is great news to hear Slowly Sideways Ireland have accepted our invitation to attend the Festival. These folk place particular emphasis on the car being the star. They will drive stages 4 and 5 after the competition cars have gone through. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy these iconic rally cars of an earlier era and appreciate the work that has gone into their preparation and presentation.”
